🔹 Part 1: What is Epigenetics?

In my last blog, What is Epigenetics?, we chatted about those three classic body types from way back when—Endomorph, Ectomorph, and Mesomorph. Sounds prehistoric, doesn’t it? Stay tuned, because these have been modernized. Well, turns out, these body types are the real deal—and they hold the key to helping you live your best life for your biology. Not someone else’s. Not your favorite social media influencer’s or your favorite actor’s. Yours.

But here’s the kicker: trying to figure out which body type you actually are? It’s like trying to fold a fitted sheet—deceptively simple and absolutely maddening.

Lucky for us, a clever bunch from Australia came to the rescue—because of course they did. Land of kangaroos, Thor, and apparently, personalized health revolutions. Enter a company called Personalized Health 360 (PH360). They’ve taken those three somatotypes and gone full Steve Irwin on them—dug in deeper, poked around, and emerged with six main HealthTypes. Why? Because most of us aren’t just one thing. We’re a delightful genetic smoothie of two—or sometimes more.

Let me break it down for you:

  • Mesomorph? They’re called the Activator
  • Endomorph? That’s the Guardian
  • Ectomorph? Meet the Sensor

Now for the hybrids:

  • Mesomorph/Endomorph? That’s the Connector
  • Endomorph/Ectomorph? Called the Diplomat
  • Ectomorph/Mesomorph? That’s your Crusader

Still with me? Brilliant. Because now it gets juicy.

If you glance at the PH360 HealthType circle, you’ll spot a ring of numbers from 0 to 360. No, it’s not a code for unlocking a secret treasure. Although honestly, it kind of is. Those numbers fine-tune your HealthType even more. A 275 Diplomat is not the same as a 310 Diplomat. It’s the difference between “Intermittent fasting is the best thing for my body.” and “I shouldn’t be skipping breakfast.” Subtle, but significant.

Oh that’s nice, a tidy little pie chart. But don’t be fooled. That wee circle is anything but simple. It’s more like a spinning, 3D kaleidoscope of your health—with layers, angles, and personality quirks built right in.

Every slice of that circle is connected to others, creating layers and overlaps. So even if you’re a 310 Diplomat, you might have a hefty dose of Connector vibes too. Meaning, your ideal lifestyle is even more personalized—and way more accurate than any one-size-fits-all diet or trend you saw on social media. I’m looking at you, pink salt weight loss trend.

Bottom line? You’re not just a body type. You’re a one-of-a-kind, multi-layered, bio-individual, wonderfully weird human being. And PH360 has the tech to help you figure yourself out without guesswork and experimentation.

I know what you’re thinking:

“Is this really accurate?”

“Can we really trust those Aussies with their flip-flops and funny words for breakfast?”

“And who is this random woman on the internet with opinions about my body type?”

A fair point—and I welcome your skepticism! I used to tell my students all the time: Don’t believe everything you read—especially online. Be a savvy consumer of information.

So naturally, I didn’t just dive into this blindly. I rolled up my sleeves, brewed a strong cup of tea (or three), and spent the last 18 months studying the science behind PH360. I even did my DNA testing to see if it matched my profile because if I’m going to recommend something, you better believe I’ll try to poke holes in it first.

But here’s the thing: no matter how many questions I threw at it, the program held up. Biologically. Logically. Practically. Every time I tried to prove it wrong, it doubled down with solid science and real-world results.  Yes, even my DNA matched the lifestyle recommendations.

So while I might be just a cheeky Scottish mum with a blog, I’m also someone who’s been knee-deep in this research and ask my previous students, I don’t hand out gold stars lightly.

It is based on 15 layers of science:  Do you really want the list?  Okay:

Core Sciences:

  • Epigenetics: This focuses on how your environment and lifestyle choices influence gene expression, impacting your health without altering your DNA sequence. PH360 aims to leverage this understanding to guide individuals in making choices that positively influence their gene expression.
  • Anthropometry: This involves the scientific measurement of the human body to understand its composition, assess health risks, and infer internal function.
  • Lifestyle Medicine: This field examines how lifestyle and environmental factors influence health and disease, aiming to achieve homeostasis by modifying these factors.

Supporting Sciences:

  • Genetics: Understanding your genetic predispositions forms a foundational layer, informing personalized health strategies.
  • Nutrigenomics: This explores how nutrients interact with and affect the expression of your genes, guiding dietary recommendations.
  • Exposomics: This emerging science investigates the impact of environmental exposures (food, air, water, etc.) on cells and biological pathways.
  • Endocrinology: This studies the role of hormones in regulating various bodily functions, influencing everything from mood and metabolism to body shape and nutrient utilization.
  • Chronobiology: This field focuses on how natural rhythms, like the day/night cycle, affect biological processes and influences recommendations for optimal eating, sleeping, and activity times.
  • Molecular Biology: This examines biological activity at the molecular level, including interactions between DNA, RNA, proteins, and epigenetic changes.
  • Neuropsychology: This investigates the connection between the brain and behavior, providing insights into personality traits, cognitive function, and behavioral drivers.
  • Phenotypology: This focuses on the study of your physical traits and characteristics, offering insights into health, potential deficiencies, and how genes are expressed in the body.
  • Semeiotics: This involves the study of signs and symptoms to understand the origin and patterns of health and disease, helping to interpret individual body signals.
  • Geomedicine: This considers the influence of geographic location and environment on individual health, including factors like climate and sun exposure.
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): PH360 draws on TCM principles that emphasize the interconnectedness of the body and environment, providing a holistic perspective on health and balance.
  • Ayurveda: This ancient Indian system of medicine focuses on maintaining health by addressing toxicity and promoting purity of both mind and body.

PH360 takes a whole bunch of fancy science—from genetics to hormones to how your wee brain ticks—and pulls it all together to give you personalized advice on what to eat, how to move, and how to live so you can actually feel like yourself again… but better.

Want to see this whole thing in action? Here are a few case studies put together by Dr. Cam McDonald, the CEO of PH360 himself. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Of course he’s singing its praises, he runs the show!” And trust me, I had the same thought. But I actually know Cam personally, and let me tell you—he’s one of the good ones. A brilliant, big-hearted Aussie with a brain full of science and a deep love for helping people. He’s not just tossing buzzwords around—he’s got the data, the results, and the credentials to back it all up. So aye, it’s worth a look.
