Vacation Wellness Tips to Help You Feel Refreshed

Vacations are meant to be fun, relaxing, and full of joy, not something you come home from feeling bloated, burned out, or like you’ve lost all your healthy momentum. I’m sharing a few wellness tips to help you enjoy your time away and return home feeling refreshed, energized, and proud of how you cared for yourself.

Take what’s helpful, leave the rest. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s intention.

Food: Plan to Savor & Feel Good

You don’t need to follow a rigid plan while on vacation, but having some structure can help you avoid the dreaded food regret that often hits mid-trip or right after you return. The key? Decide ahead of time when you want to splurge and when you want to nourish.

On my recent beach vacation, we stayed in an Airbnb and I prepped two healthy meals per day. I usually eat two meals and one snack, so I stuck to my usual rhythm. I knew I wanted to indulge on my birthday with wine and gluten, so I planned around it. I even picked the restaurant and scoped out the menu in advance. Because I had eaten nourishing foods leading up to the splurge, it was a small speed bump that didn’t derail my health.

I love Piña Coladas on the beach. Who doesn’t? I whipped up a healthier, alcohol-free version to sip while still feeling fabulous. My recipe included fresh pineapple, mango, full fat coconut milk and ice.  I didn’t have to worry about added sugars and the coconut milk  gave it a creamy texture and the healthy fat slowed down the natural sugar hit.  While everyone else was enjoying their beverage of choice, I didn’t feel deprived drinking just water.  I enjoyed my fancy, yet healthy umbrella drink!

Ask yourself:

What healthy alternatives satisfy your cravings?

What days or meals will be your planned splurges?

When will you prioritize foods that make you feel your best?

Fitness: Move in a Way That Feels Good

Vacation movement doesn’t have to be a bootcamp. It’s about staying connected to your body and doing what feels good.

During my trip, I paddleboarded twice a day. Not for the workout, but because I love being out on the water, soaking in the sunshine and quiet. It helped me burn off some Piña Colada calories and refuel my spirit.

Maybe for you it’s a long beach walk, a bike ride to grab coffee, or stretching on a balcony at sunrise.

Ask yourself:
What kind of movement would feel refreshing and restorative not like a chore?

Sleep: Protect Your Energy

It’s tempting to stay up late every night and squeeze in all the fun, but sleep is your vacation power tool. Try to stick to your regular schedule when you can. If you’re going to have a late night, make it on a day where you can sleep in or take it slow the next morning.

Well-rested you = happy, energized, and more likely to enjoy the moment fully.

Roll With the Unexpected

Real talk: not everything will go as planned and that’s okay!

During our trip, we lost power and water for nine hours. One of my prepped meals was off the table, so we ordered pizza instead. No guilt, no stress, just flexibility and gratitude for a candlelit meal and good company. That’s life and that’s okay!

Sometimes letting go is the healthiest choice you can make.

Be Present & Enjoy the Moment

Vacations are for you. For your memories, your joy, your reset.

Make your choices with confidence, embrace them, and savor every second. Whether you’re sipping that special cocktail, jumping into the ocean, or sharing a laugh over a spontaneous dinner out. Be there.

With just a little bit of planning, you can strike that sweet balance between feeling amazing and living in the moment.

Wishing you sunshine, connection, and nourishment—inside and out.

And when you’re back? You will have some momentum to carry you back into your daily routine.
